HR 218 Retired LEO Range Qualifications
This shooting qualification is for persons needing to obtain their annual T.C.O.L.E. (formerly T.C.L.E.O.S.E.) Retired Federal or Out-of-State Officer Firearms Certificate card issued by The State of Texas. Applicants must be a qualified retired law enforcement officer, residing in Texas, who are entitled to carry a concealed firearm under Title 18 United States Code Section 926C (House Resolution 218 - Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act / Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act Improvements Act of 2010 (S. 1132, Public Law 111-272).
The LEOSA course of fire is 50 rounds on a standard B-27 target (provided) in our private indoor range. With a couple of exceptions, the drill is similar to the LTC course of fire on the FAQ page here. Please note on the TCOLE form the requirement for a timed reload, so please bring at least 2 magazines. The process can be expedited slightly by bringing 3 pre-loaded magazines, 2 loaded with 5 rounds and 1 loaded with 10. All drills start from low ready position, so no holster is required.
Instructor has page 2 of the T.C.O.L.E. form in the link below ready for completion and signatures.
Unlike some other states, the Texas protocol has instructors simply sign off on page 2 of the form and TCOLE subsequently issues a card. Those new to the process in Texas should study up on the following links - with the understanding that LTC/CHL instructors only have control of the shooting qualification as described on page 2. All other inquiries should be directed to T.C.O.L.E. at 512-936-7758.

Eye and ear protection are available, if needed, at no extra charge. If planning to shoot a semi-automatic pistol, no sandals, halter tops or other clothing that can readily catch hot brass. A baseball cap and long sleeve shirt (using the very top button) are recommended.
The range is located at 409 Copper Canyon Road, 1/2 mile north of FM 407 just west of a 150 foot cell tower. "First timers" are advised that, if coming from the south, keep driving thru the curve until you see the left turn lane for the entrance driveway (per photo on FAQ page here).
See map on slide show on the home page for the best directions.
Cost: $60 on a Weekday Morning or Evening. Weekend times rarely available.
Contact Lonnie at dcsa1996@yahoo.com for an appointment. Please state your preferred date and time and he will let you know if he can make it fit.
Some retired officers also opt to get the Texas License to Carry as well. If interest, one of the most expedicious methods is to take an online course then do the shooting portion (read up on "Plan G" class on LTC page here) during the same session as the LEOSA qualification. This option requires 100 rounds of target ammo and our portion takes approximately 2 hours.
